Celebrate The King's 80th birthday

Celebrate The King's 80th birthday at the Royal Palace. The programme includes a military guard of honour, a flyover by the Swedish Air Force and a moving choral tribute from across Sweden.

His Majesty The King's 80th birthday will be celebrated on Walpurgis Night, 30 April.

The celebrations will take place throughout the day in Stockholm, and will include several events. The public can attend the following parts of the programme.

MILITARY GUARD OF HONOUR, 11:00
THE OUTER COURTYARD

Please note: Limited capacity
Admission between 9:00–10:30 via security screening in a white tent located between the Obelisk and Storkyrkan (Stockholm Cathedral). Only small handbags are permitted. Wheelchair-accessible spaces are available.

In keeping with tradition, the Swedish Armed Forces will pay their respects to The King in the Outer Courtyard on his birthday.

During the ceremony, the Swedish Armed Forces' massed standards will parade.

The incoming Main Guard will be from the Life Guards. The outgoing Main Guard will be from the Jämtland Ranger Corps.

Military bands from the Swedish Armed Forces will perform during the ceremony.

Children will have the opportunity to present flowers to The King during the changing of the guard..

FLYOVER AND SALUTE, 12:30

After the changing of the guard, The King will go out onto the Lejonbacken Terrace. Meanwhile, the Swedish Armed Forces will fire a salute for The King from Skeppsholmen and the Swedish Air Force will perform a flyover.

CHORAL TRIBUTE, 12:35–13:00
NORRBRO (The palace´s north side)

The King will listen to the choral tribute from Lejonbacken.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Music will organise a choral tribute on Norrbro, bringing together six leading choirs from across Sweden and including the world première of a newly composed choral work.

The choirs Arctic Light (Luleå), Falu Chamber Choir, Orphei Drängar (Uppsala), the Stockholm Cathedral Chamber Choir, Örebro Chamber Choir and Carolinae Röster (Lund) will take part in the choral tribute.

Wheelchair-accessible spaces are located closest to the barrier by the choir and can be accessed via Gustav Adolfs torg

WRITE A GREETING TO THE KING

On 28–29 April, from 12:00 to 16:00, lists for signing will be available at the Royal Palace for those who wish to congratulate The King.
